When it comes to Uganda destinations, there are 10 national parks in Uganda and each of them offers something exceptional and worth experiencing during Uganda safaris.
Murchison Falls National Park in the north-west is known for its magnificent landscapes and sceneries that include the World’s most powerful falls, the Victoria Nile and diverse ecosystems in addition to wide array of animals (over 80 mammal species and about 500 bird species). Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to the tree climbing lions, Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks for mountain gorillas, Lake Mburo National Park, Semliki and Kidepo Valley National Parks also offering world-class safaris, Mount Elgon and Rwenzori Mountains with unmatched climbing expeditions.
Uganda is a small country when compared with other neighboring countries within the East African region but it is the undisputable Pearl of Africa with boundless opportunities for exploring nature and glamour. You will love the climate of the country, the friendly and warm people, the untouched jungles, and the sweeping savannah plains beaming with a wide range of animals and birds. Here are the reasons why Uganda should be on your bucket list
Uganda is one of the three exceptional countries that shelter mountain gorillas in Africa and these creatures are the leading motivators for exploring the country. Of the 1063 mountain gorillas remaining in the wild, about half of them are in Uganda alone while the rest are in Rwanda as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Find and trek them in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both on the southwestern side of the country. Gorilla permits are also more affordable in this country and visitors are also offered opportunities of visiting semi-habituated gorillas.
Uganda offers more than just mountain gorillas with other wildlife species found in the 10 National Parks and Wildlife Reserves such as chimpanzees, Burchell’s zebras, lions, Defassa waterbucks, Hippos, elephants, serval cats, cheetahs, golden monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, Cape buffaloes, leopards, spotted hyenas, Rhinos and many others, in addition to over 1080 bird species in the 33 Important Bird Areas. Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda joins Lake Manyara National Park as the two only places to see the tree-climbing lions.
Ugandans are generally one of the warmest and most friendly people you will ever come across and any visitor to the country can attest to this. Expect wide smiles and warm welcomes to this spectacular country.
The country boasts breathtaking sceneries that form wonderful backdrops for photography. To the extreme west of the country are the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains dubbed “mountains of the moon”, Sempaya hot springs and Murchison falls in the northwest. To the northeast are the sweeping plains of Kidepo Valley National Park that bring an African wilderness feeling, to the south is spectacular Lake Victoria which is also the World’s second-largest freshwater Lake.
Uganda is also a cultural melting pot, one of the safest safari destinations, and is crowd-free, and ideal for visitors traveling on a budget.
